I am completing this just over seven months following a knee replacement. Mr Lewis suggested an initial consultation by telephone. This proved very informative and easy. He clearly told me all the options to deal with my knee including surgery. He very thoroughly explained the costs and benefits of having a bespoke knee rather than a standard one. This made it easier to make the right decision. He was very understanding and listened very carefully to my situation. Having decided upon an operation, he then ensured that everything went smoothly. He kept in control of the aftercare and this helped my recovery. His recommendation to use an ice machine was brilliant. I am now walking well again and once again enjoying gardening without pain.

I have recently undergone a double knee replacement with James Lewis. I feel I must write a considered review to share with others to encourage them to seek James out for a completely different approach to Knee replacement. From my Initial consultation approx 1 year previous when he said to me this was “a journey” I was unsure what to expect , having been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in both knees I was told I needed 2 knee replacements immediately by another surgeon, I came away from that appt. feeling “shell shocked “ and did some research sought a second opinion and found “James” and thank goodness I did , he explained everything to me at the first consultation and it was agreed that ultimately I would need 2 Conformis total knee replacements but it would help me greatly if I could loose some weight before having them to enhance my recovery times and in the meantime I had a series of cortisone injections to keep me mobile and help with pain relief . When I achieved this and also the injections appeared not to work as before we agreed that I would have the first operation scheduled for January this year with the second 6 weeks later. Now it is the end of April and I wont pretend its been a picnic for the whole journey but I was looked after by James and his team at Goring, the support second to none, from the day of the operation when I spent 36 hrs in hospital , No crutches or sticks after 48 hours and walking on my own from then onwards, James was always on hand to help with advice with regard to any issues I had and I can honestly say it is the best support I have ever been given by any Surgeon. Everything was explained at every step of the way and any fears I had were allayed. Wow is all I can say I now have my life back ! I had not realised how much I had lost until I have got it back and I am now walking between 1 1/4 miles and 1-3/4 miles most days for my rehab with no pain. I still have some stiffness but I know this will pass in the next few months. If you have any doubts about having knee replacement's please talk to James he is a fantastic surgeon I cannot recommend him enough his methods are unique and the recovery time is amazing! Be guided by him and his unique methods and choose Conformis if he suggests it. Thank you James

I am in for my second hip replacement within 5 weeks. James Lewis has done both as he has for my husbands two knees. I would wholeheartedly recommend him as the best consultant for this. An amazing experience

When I went to see my GP about my knee problem she referred me to James Lewis. That was my lucky day! I had a consultation with Mr Lewis who talked me through the procedure for the Conformis knee replacement and I felt very comfortable to go ahead with this. I had a cortisone injection to see me through my trip to Australia over Christmas and my operation was carried out on the 18th February. Mr Lewis came to see me before the op and talked me through everything again and to see if I had any further questions. The anaesthatist came and explained the spinal anaesthetic and then the walk down to the theatre. Everyone was very helpful and friendly and made me feel at ease. The after care at Goring Hall hospital was second to none from the nursing staff to the physios. The pain management was amazing - I felt no pain only some muscle aches. I am 4 weeks down the line and am walking normally without the use of sticks and the knee feels as though it belongs to me. I would highly recommend Mr Lewis for his excellent work in knee replacement. I am booked in for a hip replacement with Mr Lewis on the 9th May and am sure my experience for this will be just as good as for my knee.

Completely stunning Revision Total Knee replacement. James works extremely hard to provide best outcomes and after so much pain from a previous knee replacement the change is palpable. So pleased and grateful.
